One of our goals when designing Monarch products was to create a more sustainable nucleic acid purification kit. Help us continue this effort by reusing the components of your kit, whenever possible. For additional convenience, the bottom of each kit box is conveniently printed with instructions on how to recycle each component in the kit.*

How to recycle your Monarch kit components

Box & inserts

Boxes and inserts can be recycled in the paper recycling stream. Boxes can be flattened by pulling on the crescent tabs on the front and back of the inside of the box. The small magnet does not prohibit recycling, and labels do not need to be removed.

Bottles

Bottles are made with High- Density Polyethylene (HDPE) (#2), and caps are made with Polypropylene (#5). Please rinse the bottles before recycling. Do not worry about the labels that accompany the bottles. Just like with your consumer goods (e.g., food and beverages), recycling facilities are used to working with these labels.

Protocol cards

These can be recycled in the paper recycling stream. These are printed on Rolland Enviro100™ Print paper, which is made from 100% post-consumer fiber. In order for the cards to be durable in the lab, we have coated them with a biodegradable and recyclable matte finish.

Plastic bags that hold the columns

Both the bag and zipper closure are made from 100% Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) (#4) and can be recycled with other plastic films. It is common for many LDPE zipper bags to have a closure made from a different type of plastic like HDPE or PVC, which can contaminate the LDPE recycling stream. That is why we took extra care to source bags that are 100% LDPE.

Columns, tubes & vials

These are made from polypropylene (#5) and are recyclable, however, please defer to your institutional policies for proper disposal. The small amount of silica in the column does not prevent recyclability. Although not required, in order to maximize the quality of post-consumer plastic made from the recycled materials, it is ideal to pop out the membrane before recycling.**
